Mother steals $5,000 dollars from her son's dog's surgery fund to buy cosmetic products, he presses charges against her, now his whole family says he's in the wrong: 'She took the money and won't give it back'

We don't know how many times we have to say it, but only adopt a pet if you can afford the pet. Dogs are expensive. And some of the expenses that you have to make on them are not optional. It's not just getting dog food. Vet visits are expensive sometimes. There are emergencies every once in a while that you have to deal with that will cost you money as well. All of that without even talking about how dogs like to chew on expensive things sometimes, things you have to replace. 

That is something that you have to understand when you get a dog, and obviously, this dog owner did understand it. But his mom didn't. Or maybe she just didn't care. Because instead of telling her son that he's doing a great job saving up for his dog to have a surgery that the dog needs, she stole the money from his account to buy… cosmetic products. And then… well, then a whole bunch of drama happened, as you would imagine.

  • There is no question here: the mother is in the wrong. She stole from you. That is enough for her to be in the wrong. But for her to not only steal from you, but to steal from your dog's surgery fund to buy herself cosmetic products… that's a whole other level of wrong.

    my mom decided to use my shared account (she has her own card but it's my name on the account) with her to buy over $5k in products for Avon because she believes it's going to change her life...

    this is a Latino household and for the longest I've given her access to my account because sometimes I help with bills and what have you. But I've been saving money because my dog needs a liver shunt surgery, scans and recovery meds.

    Jovon35 NTA. Let's call it what it is...theft. She STOLE $5000 from you for some Avon products. Not for food, or a new roof, or to replumb the entire house because there's a leak under the house and all of the corroded pipes need to be replaced. She told it for Avon!!??

    Even if there had been an actual household emergency or family emergency that would have been a worthwhile investment, she should never have taken that money without your consent. Please file against her for small claims court and for god sakes take her name and information off of any accounts that you currently have shared with her. Good luck!

  • You have nothing to question yourself for. You did the right thing. There is no way to justify what she had done. We gave her the benefit of the doubt for a second, thinking that maybe she didn't know the money was for your dog, but the fact that she's refusing to give it back… no. Just no.

    D ckcystmcgee OP She's really really good at convincing them basically anything, I'm the only one who's moved out so far so I've learned a lot on the outsid, like my cousins and younger sibling don't speak English at all, everyone in the house (13 of them) are all super tight and she's the rule maker so they're super psisswd I called the police(also cops are hated in my hood)
